In celebration of Lady Alice Manners’ milestone 30th birthday, Belvoir Castle is treating visitors to a whimsical decoration which greeted guests entering the castle for the recent celebrations.
On show until 5th May, the installation is inspired by William Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and Castle ticket holders are invited to wander the transformed halls featuring ancient archways, extravagant floral designs and touches of theatrical flair at every turn.
Eleanor Melville, marketing manager at Belvoir Castle said: “We’re always looking for ways to bring something different to Belvoir and dazzle everyone who steps inside, and by keeping the magical decorations used at Lady Alice’s 30th birthday on display, we hope to bring another stunning visual element to the Castle experience.
“With the extra light in the afternoons and the warmer weather bringing the gardens to life too, there’s plenty to fill your day as we enjoy another long weekend.”
In a special highlight for the bank holiday from 3rd – 5th May, visitors will also be treated to original readings by Belvoir’s Poet in Residence, Tim Grayson. Sharing poetry and verses inspired by the theme, the Castle’s rich history, and the dreamlike atmosphere that lingers through the early summer light.
Home to the Manners family for centuries, Belvoir Castle sits proudly on its hilltop and has been shaped by the history that surrounds it. The home of the present Duke and Duchess of Rutland – who opened it up to the public and are responsible for its preservation and legacy – visitors to the Castle can explore its opulent and historic rooms that are filled with impressive collections of art, furniture and artifacts.
Wander the Guard Room with its impressive collection of arms and military memorabilia, the Elizabeth Saloon, named after the 5th Duchess of Rutland, the Regent’s Gallery, one of the Castle’s most impressive spaces, the Ballroom, which has hosted countless celebrations over the centuries and the State Dining Room, featuring a magnificent ceiling.
After enjoying the splendour of the Castle and the Midsummer Night’s Dream decorations, admire the picturesque gardens at Belvoir, including the Rose Garden, Japanese Woodland the Duchess Garden. The extensive parkland also has many walking paths to suit all abilities.
Treat yourself to a pre-booked Afternoon Tea experience in the Castle Aviary Tea Room. The Bistro at the Belvoir Retail Village is on hand for a selection of tasty food and drink, whilst the artisan shops celebrate local food and the best of country living.
Restored from working estate buildings, the retail village is home to the latest fashions and accessories from homewares, crafts and toys as well as a range of delicious produce from the Belvoir Estate available in the Farm Shop.
