Hugo Boss on Bridlesmith Gate - the planned location for the new Ivy restaurant

The Ivy Restaurant set to Bloom on Nottingham’s Iconic Bridlesmith Gate

The Ivy, one of the UK’s most iconic and celebrated restaurant brands, is preparing to open in Nottingham, marking a significant moment for the historic Bridlesmith Gate and the city’s ever-evolving food and hospitality scene.

A licensing application has been submitted to Nottingham City Council by Troia UK Restaurants Ltd, the parent company behind The Ivy Collection – also known for venues such as Harry’s Dolce Vita and Brasserie of Light. The chosen site is 31 Bridlesmith Gate, formerly occupied by Hugo Boss, and sits at the heart of one of Nottingham’s most architecturally significant and well-loved streets.

Bridlesmith Gate, once known as a high-end shopping destination, is enjoying a period of reinvention. With a growing mix of premium brands, independent traders and lifestyle experiences, the area is being revitalised as a key artery between the city centre and the major regeneration projects of the Broad Marsh area. The arrival of The Ivy is not only a sign of this progress but a powerful endorsement of Nottingham’s growing profile as a regional destination for dining, culture and investment.

The Ivy has built its reputation since opening in London’s West End in 1917, expanding to more than 40 locations nationwide. It is widely recognised for its sophisticated yet accessible menus, stylish interiors, and enduring appeal to a broad range of customers. The proposed Nottingham restaurant would include ground and first floor dining and intends to operate from 8am until 12.30am every day, serving food and drink from morning to late evening.

Its presence would bring a new dimension to Nottingham’s city centre, providing an experience that complements the city’s rich culinary landscape – which already includes award-winning independents, nationally recognised chains and an increasingly vibrant food and drink culture. From brunches and afternoon teas to signature cocktails and indulgent evening meals, The Ivy offers the kind of all-day appeal that fits naturally with Nottingham’s buzzing, youthful energy and cultural mix.

The fact that a brand of this stature is choosing Nottingham – and specifically Bridlesmith Gate – speaks volumes about the area’s transformation. Once dubbed ‘Nottingham’s Carnaby Street’, this historic street is fast regaining its reputation as a must-visit destination. The addition of a prestigious name like The Ivy is likely to encourage further interest from similar brands, creating a ripple effect for both commercial investment and visitor footfall.

This announcement comes at a time of major investment and ambition across the city. Nottingham’s Southside regeneration, including the Broad Marsh transformation and the creation of a new ‘Green Heart’ public space, is reshaping the urban landscape. The Ivy’s potential arrival aligns perfectly with the city’s long-term strategy to become a leading UK destination for leisure, lifestyle and culture.
