Abbey Park Benefits from Better Bus Service

Buckfast Way in Abbey Park benefits from a new bus service from Sunday 30th March, thanks to improvements made by Nottingham City Transport (NCT) and Nottinghamshire County Council.

New Green 5A will serve the Buckfast Way turning circle in Abbey Park every hour during the daytime, bringing the local bus service closer to residents in the area.

The additional stop is being introduced following requests from local residents and councillors, with Nottinghamshire County Council installing the new bus stop ahead of its introduction.

NCT’s Bridgford Bus network was revised in September 2024 and recently saw a multi-million pound investment in eight brand new zero emission electric buses. The new Bridgford Bus routes and timetables have contributed to a 6% increase in passenger journeys in the area.

David Conway, NCT Head of Operations said, “We’re very pleased with how our Bridgford Bus network is performing, with more people using our buses across West Bridgford following the changes we made last year. This additional stop in Abbey Park will bring buses closer to residents and we’re happy to work in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council to bring further improvements to the local bus service”.

Councillor Neil Clarke MBE, Cabinet Member for Transport and Environment at Nottinghamshire County Council welcomed the new service, saying “It’s fantastic to be able to work in partnership with Nottingham City Transport to help deliver the bus service extension into Buckfast Way by providing this new bus stop.

“We have worked together to make this improvement after listening to residents so that they have means to access local amenities using public transport where this was not previously possible. We hope it will also encourage others to change their usual habit of using other forms of transport by trying out the bus to help create a greener and cleaner environment.”

From the same date, NCT will be introducing Monday to Friday peak time timetable changes to Green 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 to improve reliability.

New timetables are available at www.nctx.co.uk and in the NCTX Buses app, with printed leaflets available from the NCT Travel Centre and West Bridgford Library.
