Belvoir Castle in the Sunshine.

Belvoir Castle Launches Programme of Free Community Events for Spring

Book lovers, nature enthusiasts and green-thumbed gardeners are invited to join a series of free events and clubs hosted by Belvoir Castle. Running throughout April, the programme of events includes woodland walks exploring the vast nature and heritage of the grounds, gardening clubs run by Belvoir’s own expert gardeners and a book group hosted by Belvoir Chaplain, Eddie Wynn MBE.

The events are part of a new pilot programme, inviting the local community to come together to enjoy everything that the Belvoir Estate has to offer. Tickets are free for everyone, but spaces are limited, so booking a place via the Belvoir Castle website is essential.

Nestled in the heart of the Leicestershire countryside, Belvoir Castle is for its picturesque grounds and stunning formal gardens. From secret grottos to sprawling woodland, the Estate’s grounds hold centuries of history in its vast landscape designed by the renowned landscape architect Capability Brown. Visitors are invited to explore the grounds in the new series of walks run by Belvoir’s Estate Manager, David Crossland, and learn all about the wildlife and heritage of the site. Perfect for those who enjoy fresh air and gentle exercise, the Woodland Walks and Nature Trails will begin in the Belvoir Retail Village and wind their way through the historic landscape of the Castle grounds. The events will take place at 11am on Wednesday 8 April and 15 April.

Hosted by one of Belvoir’s expert gardeners, Tom Webster, the new Gardening Club will welcome experienced gardeners and newcomers alike, offering specialist guidance and the opportunity to learn practical skills, all in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. From the tranquil Hermits Garden to the stunning Rose Garden, home to more than 1,000 roses, Belvoir Castle’s formal gardens are a treasure trove of foliage and flowers. The Gardening Club will meet at the Belvoir Bistro, in the Belvoir Retail Village, on 11am on 9 and 16 April.

Eleanor Melville, marketing manager at Belvoir Castle, said:

“This past year, we’ve seen an increased appetite for events in the Castle and the Belvoir Retail Village. We wanted to offer the local community even more opportunities to get together and experience all the different things Belvoir has to offer.

“The grounds and gardens of Belvoir Castle are beautiful throughout the year, but there is something particularly special about spring, when thousands of daffodils and crocuses pop their heads up. We’re delighted to welcome the local community to join our passionate team to enjoy the grounds and gardens or maybe discover their new favourite book.”

The new Book Club will take place on the first Tuesday of every month, beginning on 6 April. Hosted by the Belvoir Chaplain, Eddie Wynn MBE each session will offer lively discussion, thoughtful conversation, and a chance to discover new authors in a relaxed café setting. The sessions will take place in the Belvoir Bistro and offer refreshments.

Open seven days a week, Belvoir Retail Village is a thriving shopping and dining hub, sitting at the foot of Belvoir Castle. The retail destination offers artisan shopping in the heart of the stunning Vale of Belvoir and celebrates local food and the best of country living. Restored from working estate buildings, it is home to the latest fashions and accessories from homewares, crafts and toys as well as a range of delicious produce from the Belvoir Estate available in the Farm Shop.
