Liz Morley – Wilding Campuses Project Manager – Nottingham College

With crashing declines in biodiversity since the 1970s, the UK is one of the most nature-depleted in the world. We are increasingly disconnected from the natural world, with urban teenagers having fewer opportunities than most to experience the benefits that a connection to nature brings. With this in mind Liz Morley leads the ‘Wilding Campuses’ project at Nottingham College, working to improve biodiversity across our 8 sites. Liz provides opportunities for young people to connect with nature , experiencing the wellbeing benefits this can bring. Working with groups of young people, she has developed green spaces at our 8 campuses across the city, delivering skills sessions to develop a sense of agency in our students, empowering them to take positive action to benefit nature, building community and bringing people together. She is also exploring sustainable, beautiful, climate resilient ways to manage urban green space, including drought tolerant plantings in recycled substrate, urban meadow creation, incorporating habitat such as dead wood for biodiversity, engaging people through creativity, food growing and more.
