Marketing Nottingham and Nottinghamshire (MNN), the region’s official place marketing organisation, has announced a year of achievements across its portfolio of brands in their 2024/2025 annual review, cementing Nottingham and Nottinghamshire’s position as a leading destination to visit, invest, meet, and grow.
Despite ongoing national and global challenges, 2024/25 proved to be a landmark year for the organisation, with results highlighting both the scale of economic impact and the strength of collaboration across the region.
Visit Nottinghamshire has announced that the city and county welcomed 34.96 million visitors combined, contributing more than £2.53 billion to the local economy, a 6.9 per cent increase on the previous year. This growing visitor economy also supported 22,557 full-time equivalent jobs, reflecting the county’s exceptional offer across culture, sport, heritage, leisure, and hospitality.
The Invest in Nottingham team delivered a remarkable £74 return for every £1 spent. Over the course of the year, projects generated 1,183 new jobs and delivered a £62.8 million uplift in GVA, demonstrating Nottinghamshire’s competitiveness as a place to do business. At the same time, Meet in Nottingham reinforced the city’s reputation as a leading conference and events destination. The highlight of the year was the Touch Rugby World Cup 2024, which attracted 3,000 players from 39 countries and generated a £10 million boost for the local economy. In total, the Convention Bureau supported 15 major events, securing more than 1,500 bed nights and reinforcing Nottingham’s ability to host high-profile international gatherings.
On the frontline of the visitor economy, the award-winning Nottingham Tourism Centre welcomed more than 100,000 people, offering expert, personalised guidance that helps shape the visitor experience and extends stays in the city and county. The centre also strengthened Nottingham’s identity as a hub for international tourism, retail, and major events, including football tourism through its continued partnership with Nottingham Forest.
The Nottingham Partners network continued to expand its role as one of the region’s most influential business forums, bringing together senior leaders to drive collaboration, foster growth, and connect directly with the newly formed East Midlands Combined County Authority. This growing membership base plays a vital role in ensuring Nottinghamshire remains competitive and ambitious on both the national and international stage.
Marketing, PR and communications activity also reached new heights. In the past year alone, MNN generated a staggering audience reach of more than 794 million across print, digital, broadcast, and social channels, with advertising value equivalency estimated at £7.34 million. Consumer-facing campaigns through Visit Nottinghamshire delivered a record 765 million reach, a 738 per cent increase year on year – supported by national press features, international travel trade showcases, award-nominated social media campaigns and hosting international press and media visits such as French TV network TF1.
Megan Powell Vreeswijk, Chief Executive of Marketing Nottingham & Nottinghamshire, said:
“This year’s results are a testament to the power of collaboration and the strength of our region. Together with our partners, members, and stakeholders, we have delivered measurable impact – from attracting inward investment and creating jobs, to welcoming millions of visitors and showcasing Nottinghamshire on the global stage. We remain ambitious about the future, and as a lean organisation I’m proud of what we’ve achieved, and excited to build on this momentum as we look ahead.”
As the organisation looks forward, it will continue to champion the city and county’s ambitions in line with the East Midlands Combined County Authority. Priorities for the year ahead include the development of a new ten-year Destination Management Plan, strengthening inward investment pipelines, and unifying Nottinghamshire’s voice across domestic and international markets.
