Mr Straw’s Greenhouse inspires New Wallpaper Design

A small greenhouse at Mr Straw’s House in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, has inspired a new wallpaper design launched as part of Little Greene’s latest collaboration with the National Trust.

Available now, In the Garden is Little Greene’s sixth wallpaper collection created with the National Trust. The collection celebrates gardens of all kinds and the people who cared for them, from grand landscapes to modest, personal spaces.

One of the designs, Mr Straw’s Greenhouse, is inspired by the cactus and succulent collection belonging to Walter Straw, the son of William and Florence Straw. Walter lived in the house at 7 Blyth Grove for most of his life with a greenhouse still standing at the end of the garden today. It remains home to a carefully tended collection of plants.

The wallpaper design reflects Walter’s quiet passion for horticulture and the character of a home shaped by everyday routines and personal interests. Printed using a combination of traditional and modern techniques, the design has been coloured to coordinate with Little Greene paint shades, making it easy to create cohesive interior schemes.

A contribution from the sale of every roll of wallpaper supports the National Trust’s work caring for more than 500 historic places, landscapes and coastlines across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Senior House & Collections Officer, Danielle Lander-Brown says, “Visitors to Mr Straw’s House can explore the greenhouse that inspired the design and discover more about Walter Straw’s life and interests, seeing first-hand how his love of plants helped shape this much-loved corner of the garden.”

The house has been closed for its annual winter clean and will reopen on Thursday 5th March. Bookings can be made 4 weeks in advance by calling 0344 249 1895 or through the website at www.nationaltrust.org.uk/mrstrawshouse
