Nottingham Playhouse’s Amplify artist development programme has announced AMPLIFY: SEASONS, an exciting new initiative aimed at increasing opportunities for Midlands artists to share their work with audiences throughout the year.
The four AMPLIFY: SEASONS events per year will give artists the chance to connect with, and receive feedback from, audiences and industry on their work at various stages of development. SEASONS will replace the popular annual Amplify festival, providing year-round opportunities for audiences and artists to come together and celebrate Midlands artists work.
SEASONS will launch with AMPLIFY: SUMMER, which will take place 3 – 4 July 2025.
Artists will be able to apply to the SEASONS programme via twice yearly ideas submissions windows, as well as through invited expressions of interest. The decision-making panels will also be open, to artists and members of Nottingham Playhouse’s creative community, to help give an insight into the programming processes and demystify them.
The presented work may be work-in-progress or finished pieces, and artists will benefit from developing their work with dedicated technical support, and research and Development / rehearsal time in the Neville Studio prior to the performances. They will receive audience feedback on the work and mentoring from Nottingham Playhouse’s Artist Development Producer.
Audiences will benefit from having more opportunities to see a wide variety of brand-new work in progress and final performances, with a broader range of dates to choose from throughout the year.
Artist Development Producer Beccy D’Souza said:
“We’re responding to our Amplify Members, who want more consistent opportunities to share their work, as well as longer lead-in times to build in funding support and access arrangements. With these regular opportunities, we should also be able to be more fleet of foot in platforming work in the early stages of development.
“Building on the career development opportunities offered by the Amplify programme, AMPLIFY: SEASONS will consistently invest in local artists, including taking risks on new work, new writing and artists moving in new directions. It’s fantastic to be able to put that all in front of audiences on a more frequent basis.”
Artistic Director at Nottingham Playhouse, Adam Penford, said:
“The Amplify programme is the best way for local theatremakers to build a relationship with Nottingham Playhouse. Last year, we introduced the Writers’ Group and Actors Collective, providing training and creating new artistic networks. This year, in response to feedback from Amplify members, we’re introducing AMPLIFY: SEASONS, which provides more regular opportunities throughout the year for local artists to develop and showcase their work.”
Ideas submissions are now open, closing on 13 February. Further information and application forms can be found on the website. Decisions and feedback to artists will be given by 18 March. The programme for AMPLIFY: SUMMER is expected to be announced in April, when tickets for performances will also go on sale to the public.
