Nottingham City Transport recently held its staff family fun day at Nottingham Rugby Ground, providing a free day of entertainment and activities for its colleagues and their families.
Alongside inflatable fun, a petting zoo, games, face painting, arts and crafts, food and drink, the day supported fundraising for Child Bereavement UK on behalf of the Netherfield based Tommy Thompson Boxing Club, who attended the Fun Day to give demonstrations.
Tommy lost his only daughter, Kayleigh Marie and after his six weeks of supported counselling came to an end, he still felt lost and has been supported by Child Bereavement UK ever since.
Tommy said, “After completing my counselling sessions, I still felt lost so kept in contact with my counsellor, who has helped me back in to the land of the living. The work Child Bereavement UK do is great, helping people rebuild lives after the loss of a loved one. To give back, I have become an official ambassador for the charity alongside seventeen year old Clayton Wilson, who has been one of my boxers for over a decade. Last year we raised £6,000 and we’ve set a challenging goal of raising £10,000 this year”.
The mission of Child Bereavement UK is to help families to rebuild their lives when a child grieves or when a child dies, and to tackle the shortage of bereavement support across the UK.
Anthony Carver-Smith, NCT Head of Marketing and Projects said, “Our Staff Family Fun Day was a great event attended and enjoyed by hundreds of our colleagues and their families. With shift work and unsocial hours part of the job for so many of our colleagues, it was great to provide a free day for our teams to be able to relax with their families, whilst at the same time be able to raise a significant amount for charity”.
