Nottingham City Transport Announces Upcoming Service Changes

Nottingham City Transport Announces Upcoming Service Changes

Nottingham City Transport (NCT) is set to introduce a number of service updates to its bus network, aimed at improving service reliability and providing a better travel experience for passengers. These changes will take effect on Sunday, 30th March 2025, and include:

  • Introduction of new electric buses on Navy 48, serving The Meadows and Clifton
  • Increased frequency on Navy 48, with buses now running up to every 15 minutes Monday to Saturday daytimes
  • New Green 5A route introduced, offering hourly connections to Buckfast Way in Abbey Park
  • Minor timetable changes to Green Line services to fine-tune schedules following September’s changes
  • Renumbering Red Line 50 to the 45 so consecutive numbers serve common areas
  • Reinstatement of the weekend holiday service on Orange 34/C, providing buses every 30 minutes between University Park Campus, QMC, and Broadmarsh during University of Nottingham holidays

Completion of the Next Batch of Electric Bus Rollout

From the upcoming service change, five brand-new Yutong E12 electric buses will enter service on Navy 48, operating between The Meadows, Queens Drive, and Clifton. These new buses, with a seating capacity of 38, are the final five from the second batch of 24 delivered this year.

With their introduction, the frequency of Navy 48 will also increase from every 20 minutes to every 15 minutes on Monday to Saturday daytimes, further improving connectivity for passengers.

The introduction of electric buses on Navy 48 marks the completion of NCT’s latest batch of electric bus rollout, bringing the total number of electric single-deck buses in service, quite aptly, to 48.

Last year, NCT introduced the first 24 new electric buses on routes including Green 11, Pink 30, Blue 39, 40, 41, 42, and Red 50. This year, a further 24 electric buses were delivered, and with Navy 48 now set to receive its new electric buses, the full rollout of this second batch will be complete. These buses are now fully allocated to routes including Navy 3, Green 5, 6, 8, 9, Sky Blue 61 and Yellow 70, 71.

Details on the Green 5A

As part of these changes, the Green 5A will now operate hourly to Buckfast Way in Abbey Park every day, improving daytime access for residents in the area. The change follows consultation and partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council and local councillors to ensure it best meets passengers’ needs and builds on the network improvements introduced in West Bridgford last year, which has seen passenger growth of over 6% across the area.

Anthony Carver-Smith, NCT Head of Marketing and Projects said, “We regularly review our services and are pleased to introduce further improvements to the City bus network from the end of March. The enhanced frequency for Clifton service 48 alongside investment in brand new zero emission electric buses for the route brings great benefits to customers, as will the additional stop on Buckfast Way in Abbey Park, which we’re introducing in partnership with Nottinghamshire County Council, local residents and elected representatives”.
