About the Venue: Broadway Cinema

Broadway Cinema is more than an iconic independent film venue; it is a cultural institution actively rethinking how creative spaces can operate more sustainably. Broadway has developed an Environmental Policy and Action Plan that targets meaningful reductions in energy use, waste and emissions, backed by an in-house green team working across every department to accelerate change.
Their current plan includes reducing electricity and gas emissions by 10 percent, eliminating waste to landfill within two years, and shifting fully to biodegradable catering materials. Broadway is also greening its procurement and working with suppliers to reduce packaging and improve sustainability across its food and beverage offer. Vegetarian and vegan options now dominate menus, with most wines and beers already vegan.
Operationally, Broadway has reduced single-use plastics, eliminated printed cast sheets, incentivised reusable cups, and expanded recycling and reuse practices, including repurposing cinema seating within the local cultural ecosystem. These changes reflect a pragmatic commitment to sustainability rooted in real-world action rather than slogans or statements.
As the venue for the first edition of FUTUREPROOF26, Broadway provides a fitting backdrop for a new sustainability forum exploring how cities, organisations and businesses can transition to cleaner, greener and more resilient futures. Its location in Nottingham’s Creative Quarter, and its environmental practices, reinforce the spirit of the event: collaborative, practical and forward-looking.
