Harvey Wood helped found Clean Rivers Trust and has worked with the Trust leading its research over its so far 35 years. He is an Honorary Professor at the University of Nottingham and was an Honorary Fellow at the University of Exeter (Camborne School of Mines). He has worked closely with Imperial College, London, University of Newcastle, Nottingham Trent University and several others in the UK and overseas.

He has published two books on the remediation of minewater and issues relating to tailings dams alongside papers on a wide range of environmental topics. He has broadcast on a number of television and radio programs.
