Additional Free Tag Rugby Taster Session added in Nottingham due to high demand

An additional Free Tag Rugby Taster Session has been added in Nottingham following strong early demand, with the first session having already taken place this week ahead of the launch of a new city league later this month.

Try Tag Rugby is bringing its fast-growing social sport to Nottingham for the first time, with its opening league starting on Wednesday 27th May at Nottingham Moderns RFC in Wilford.

Following high levels of interest in the initial taster sessions — including the first session which took place this week — an extra session has now been scheduled for Wednesday 20th May at 7pm at the same venue to give more people the opportunity to get involved.

The opening session saw strong attendance, with many participants trying the sport for the first time, reinforcing demand for a fun, social and accessible way to stay active in the city.

The seven-week league will run on Wednesday evenings and is designed to be a simple and enjoyable way to stay active after work. Nottingham Moderns RFC is an accessible venue located around a 15 to 20 minute walk from Nottingham railway station, a short bike ride or around a 10 minute drive from the city centre.

Tag Rugby is a minimal-contact, mixed-gender team sport that is easy to learn and open to all abilities. Most players have never played before, and individuals can sign up on their own and be placed into a team, making it simple to get involved.

The Nottingham league will also have a strong social element, with post-match socials taking place on site each week, giving players the chance to meet new people and build friendships alongside playing.

Patrick Alexander, who is leading the launch of the Nottingham league, said:

“Demand for the taster sessions has been brilliant and it’s clear there’s a real appetite for something fun, social and accessible like this in Nottingham. We wanted to make sure as many people as possible have the chance to try it before the league starts, so adding an extra session on 20th May was an easy decision. The sessions are designed to be welcoming and relaxed, especially for beginners, so it’s a great way to give it a go.”

Carl Duckels, National Franchising Director at Try Tag Rugby, said:

“It’s fantastic to see such strong early interest in Nottingham. Adding an extra taster session is a great sign of the demand for social, inclusive sport, and we’re excited to see the community continue to grow ahead of the league launch.”

Last summer, roughly 11,000 people played weekly across 33 Try Tag Rugby locations nationwide, with more than 40% female participation, highlighting its appeal as a mixed and inclusive sport.
