A community art trail celebrating local creativity and recycling has officially launched across North Nottinghamshire.

Organised by North Notts Bid, the North Notts Mural Trail features 30 installations of colourful eco-themed murals, each crafted from recycled plastic lids and brought to life with help from local schools and community groups. The murals will be on display across Worksop, Retford, Tuxford, Harworth and Bircotes as well as Langold Country Park until 6 September.

The project was developed and delivered by North Notts BID with support from Wickes who provided the screws along with a £5k contribution to the project from UKSPF Government funding. Schools and groups involved in creating the murals include the Elizabethan Academy, Worksop College, Tuxford Academy, Harworth and Bircotes Pride and Middletons Yard.

Sally Gillborn MBE, chief executive at North Notts BID, said:

“The North Notts Mural Trail has given young people a hands-on way to engage with the environmental challenges facing us all, celebrate what our communities can create together, as well as offering people a great reason to explore the towns and villages that make North Notts so special.”

North Notts BID is running its Mural Challenge with each mural concealing a hidden item on its reverse. Trail participants are invited to spot the hidden item on each mural and record their answers on the trail challenge page in the pocket guide, using the mural numbers to match each location. For added convenience, the trail can also be completed digitally by scanning the QR code in the guide or on the back of any mural.

Pocket guide leaflets featuring the full map and trail challenge page are being distributed across local schools, cafes, libraries and community groups.

Anyone who completes all 30 will receive a certificate and be entered into a prize draw to win a hamper full of goodies from local businesses. To submit an entry, send a photo of the completed trail challenge page to info@northnottsbid.co.uk or complete the Google form.

Sally added:

“The trail brings together local businesses, schools and community organisations in a way that is genuinely exciting to see. It is completely free, so whether you are heading out with the family, meeting friends or simply exploring somewhere new, there has never been a better reason to discover what North Nottinghamshire’s towns and villages have to offer.”
