Sherwood Observatory Gears up for a Sizzling Summer

Sherwood Observatory is ready to welcome families, space enthusiasts and curious minds to discover the wonders of the universe this summer with an exciting programme of July planetarium shows now available online.

As the summer season begins, visitors can book their visit to step inside the planetarium and take an unforgettable journey through the cosmos. With a choice of over 20+ shows designed to suit all ages and interests, Sherwood Observatory offers the perfect opportunity to explore secrets of the universe, learn more about space related topics, and enjoy a unique learning experience during the school holidays.

July show dates are now live, with tickets available online and with summer being one of the busiest times of year, visitors are encouraged to book early to secure their preferred show time.

Sherwood Observatory is also pleased to announce a special summer ticket saving. As part of the Government’s temporary reduced VAT scheme, Great British Summer Savings 2026, VAT on eligible family leisure activities has been reduced from 20% to 5%. Sherwood Observatory is passing this saving directly on to visitors, with reduced prices available on all standard planetarium show tickets purchased for July and August, including both adult and child tickets.

A standard planetarium ticket also includes access to the Observatory’s new exhibition celebrating space exploration, astronomy and STEM. Visitors can explore fascinating displays covering spaceflight, the solar system, British rocketry, conservation and more, featuring rare Space Shuttle artefacts, unique memorabilia and artwork on loan from Rudolf Williams’ private collection.

Guests can also enjoy light refreshments in the spacious café, and most shows include a short space-themed talk and the chance to ask presenters questions about the universe.

“Our Volunteers and small in-house team are very much looking forward to a fantastic summer ahead at Sherwood Observatory, with exciting experiences, inspiring shows and activities for visitors of all ages. Our aim is to keep bringing space, science and discovery to life, encouraging everyone to explore and feel inspired the wonders of the universe.”  – Tony Booth, Sherwood Observatory Planetarium & Science Centre Manager
