Richard Whitehead MBE Celebrates 50th Birthday – A Milestone Marking Five Decades of Resilience, Achievement and Advocacy

19 July 2026 marks a significant milestone for Richard Whitehead MBE, the Paralympic champion, marathon runner and global advocate for disability inclusion, as he celebrates his 50th birthday.

Across five decades, Richard has built a legacy defined not only by world‑class athletic achievement, but by his unwavering commitment to challenging perceptions, breaking barriers and empowering others to believe in possibility.

Born with a congenital disability, Richard’s journey has been shaped by resilience, determination and a refusal to accept limitations. From training for the New York Marathon on sports cups in 2004, to becoming a double Paralympic gold medallist, to inspiring communities around the world, his story continues to resonate far beyond sport.

“Turning 50 isn’t a finish line,” Richard reflects. “It’s the start of a new chapter. If my journey helps someone believe more is possible, then every challenge has been worth it.”

Throughout his career, Richard has championed inclusion at every level, working with charities, schools, brands and policymakers to create opportunities for people living with disabilities. His work has influenced global conversations around accessibility, representation and equality, cementing his role as one of the UK’s most impactful advocates.

As he celebrates this milestone, Richard acknowledges the people who have supported him on his journey – mentors, teammates, family, friends and the communities who have stood beside him throughout every race, every challenge and every chapter.

“Life hasn’t always been easy,” he says. “But the highs, the lows, the moments of doubt and the breakthroughs, they’ve all shaped who I am. I’m grateful for every step.”

Richard will mark his 50th birthday quietly, focusing on reflection, gratitude and the road ahead. With new projects, partnerships and personal goals already in motion, the next chapter promises to be one of continued impact, inspiration and forward momentum.
