A local attraction has achieved a place in the top two theme parks in the UK, according to new rankings based on thousands of Google reviews.
Sundown Adventureland, which is designed for children under 10, scored an impressive 4.65 stars from 5,726 reviews, placing it ahead of some of the country’s biggest and best-known theme parks, including Gulliver’s in Cheshire, Chessington World of Adventures and LEGOLAND Windsor.
The rankings were compiled by web experts at OKPromo, who analysed Google Maps reviews of theme parks across the UK on October 2, ahead of the October half-term holiday.
This is the latest in a string of accolades for the family-owned attraction, during an extraordinary run of recognition. Last month, Sundown Adventureland won Gold in the Best Christmas Event category at the UK Theme Park Awards 2026 and also received Bronze in the Best Theme Park for Toddlers category.
The park’s success continued at the recent North Notts Business Awards 2026, where Sundown was named Family Business of the Year, while the remarkable legacy of the founder’s daughter, Gaynor Rhodes, was recognised with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Debs Griffin, director at Sundown Adventureland, who runs the park alongside her brother Shaun, said:
“We’re immensely proud to be ranked second in the top ten theme parks in the UK.
“What makes this recognition particularly special is that it’s based on the genuine reviews left by our visitors. We work incredibly hard to make sure every family who visits Sundown has an exceptional day out, so knowing that our visitors feel that way means the world to us.
“Sundown is all about family. We’re one of a small number of family-owned and family-run theme parks in the UK, and we’re passionate about delivering a family experience of the highest quality.
“To receive our fifth accolade in less than a month is incredible, and the timing couldn’t be better as we head into the October half-term. We hope the recognition inspires even more families to come and experience the magic of Sundown for themselves – and discover why our visitors rate us so highly.”
Sundown’s popular Spooky Sundown event returns from 17 October to 1 November, transforming the park into a playful spooky world, complete with giant spiders, hundreds of pumpkins, colourful bunting and hay bales, as well as picture-perfect photo opportunities featuring a spectacular 10-foot-tall pumpkin and a creepy 12-foot-long spider. Visitors can enjoy a Scream Team Monster Hunt and face painting, as well as a new Creepy Carnival this year, featuring free traditional fairground-style games for the whole family.
Families can also explore 50 acres of rides, attractions and adventures, including the WILD Ostrich Safari Ride, which transports visitors to the heart of the African bush, and the Singing Pet Shop, where children can sing along with the animals.
Young buccaneers can climb aboard the giant wooden galleon at Smuggler’s Cove, which has recently been renamed Rusty Ducks by a lucky competition winner, while those looking to burn off some energy can head to Crash Landings, Sundown’s biggest indoor play area, featuring four storeys of jungle-themed fun.
