Nottingham College Named Employer of the Year

Nottingham College has been named Employer of the Year at the 2026 East Midlands Business of the Year Awards, recognising its commitment to staff wellbeing, development and workplace culture.

The award, presented at the Crowne Plaza Nottingham on 15 October, celebrates organisations that go above and beyond to support their workforce through training and development, flexible working, wellbeing initiatives and employee support.

The accolade reflects Nottingham College’s continued focus on creating a workplace where colleagues feel valued, supported and able to thrive. Judges recognised the college’s leadership in employee wellbeing, including dedicated support for staff affected by endometriosis, menopause and other menstrual health conditions, alongside a network of 41 Mental Health First Aiders providing support across the organisation.

The college was also recognised for its ongoing investment in staff through CPD (Continuing Professional Development) Days, flexible working opportunities and colleague recognition initiatives such as the STAR Awards and Long Service Awards. Together, these initiatives have helped make Nottingham College the highest-ranked further education college in the UK for workplace engagement.

The award was presented during an evening attended by more than 250 business leaders from across the East Midlands. Nottingham College was selected from a strong shortlist of employers recognised for creating outstanding workplace cultures and supporting their people.

James Woodthorpe, Director of People and Culture at Nottingham College, said:

“Winning Employer of the Year is a fantastic achievement and a testament to the culture our colleagues have built together. Our people are at the heart of everything we do, and we remain committed to supporting their wellbeing, development and success. This award recognises the dedication and passion of colleagues across the college, and we are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together.”
