City announces themed exhibition to commemorate Platinum Jubilee

Nottingham City Council has announced the latest event to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

An exhibition entitled 70 Glorious Years – The Queen in Nottingham will be a large format open-air photographic exhibition staged in Old Market Square between Friday 27 May – Sunday 5 June.

A collection of 22 images will celebrate the Queen’s visits to Nottingham over the last 70 years from the Coronation tour in 1955 through to her most recent visit for the Diamond Jubilee in 2012. The images also look at how the Nottingham people have celebrated significant royal occasions over the years. People coming to visit this exhibition can reminisce or learn for the first time about the Queen and her links to the city.

Images chosen by a panel of experts from the city and county archives have been collected from a range of partners. The exhibition is sponsored by Geldards – one of the country’s leading law firms.

“Geldards is delighted to be supporting this wonderful photographic exhibition celebrating the Queen’s 70 Glorious Years. What a superb retrospective on Her Majesty’s visits to Nottingham during her reign! We hope that many people will visit Old Market Square over the Platinum Jubilee weekend to enjoy the exhibition.”

Paul Southby, Partner, Geldards & High Sheriff of Nottinghamshire

Councillor Pavlos Kotsonis, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Planning at Nottingham City Council said:

“The pictures have been collected from a range of partners and experts including Nottingham City Archives, Nottingham Local Studies Library, Picture Nottingham, Inspire Picture Archive, University of Nottingham Manuscripts and Special Collections, Motorpoint Arena and National Ice Centre, as well as Boots, and the Nottingham Post. We would like to thank all the partners that have supported us with pictures from their archives along with their expertise, and particular thanks must go to Geldards for kindly sponsoring this exhibition.”

The exhibition will open to the public in Old Market Square for public viewing on Friday 27 May and will remain until Sunday 5 June, open between 8am and 8pm daily
