Are We There Yet?
EMCCA’s Mayor Claire Ward examines the vision for Integrated Transport, broadening Beeston’s links across the region, UK and the rest of the world. Mayor Claire Ward will be the guest speaker at the first of Beeston & District Civic Society’s Winter Talks Programme on Wednesday 11″ November. This topic is especially relevant as the UK Government has recently announced that the funding limit for local transport schemes is being increased from £200 million to £500 million before regional mayors must
seek Whitehall approval.
A short presentation will describe the £6m funded mini “Switzerland” pilot project for rural transport and integrated ticketing system to be introduced in the Peak District. This will be followed by an audience participation discussion and answer session.
Beeston can hardly be described as rural and has an excellent transport interchange of trams and buses at its centre, but integrated transport links are a major issue for residents in outlying areas in and around Beeston. The Rylands is a prime example of “disconnected” public transport and along with the north and west of Beeston, Toton and Attenborough, it suffers from erratic and infrequent services creating problems for locals needing to access the town and its wider transport links.
Venue: Royal British Legion, Hall Croft, NG9 1EL
Times: Doors open from 6.45pm, Talk starts 7.15pm prompt.
Refreshments available from the licensed bar.
