Creswell Crags launches summer family activities inspired by the Ice Age

Creswell Crags is inviting families to step back in time this summer with a programme of brand-new cave experiences and creative activities designed for children aged 5 and above.

Running throughout the school holidays, the programme includes atmospheric guided sessions inside Robin Hood Cave, plus hands-on workshops where children can become archaeologists, palaeontologists, nature crafters and Ice Age makers.

The new cave experiences take visitors into the deepest chamber of Robin Hood Cave, bringing prehistory to life through storytelling, light, sound and participation. Campfire Tales invites families to gather around an imagined campfire for stories of mammoths, hyenas and hunters, while Sounds of the Stone Age explores prehistoric music and gives children the chance to become Stone Age drummers.

A dedicated Relaxed Campfire Cave Experience will also run on Wednesdays for families with neurodivergent children who may benefit from a smaller group, additional lighting, a slower pace and more detailed information in advance.

Alongside the cave sessions, a rotating programme of family workshops will take place in the Visitor Centre, including Archaeology Adventure, Nature Crafts, Stone Age Safari, Lantern Making and Stone Age Jewellery.

The summer activities are suitable for children aged 5+ and their families. Cave experiences cost £8 per person, while workshop prices start from £6 per child. Supervising adults may attend some of the workshops free of charge but must still book a space.

Families are encouraged to book early, as spaces are limited.
