On Wednesday 12th November VisitEngland, the National Tourism Body awarded the Heights of Abraham the highest possible “Gold” accreditation for excellence in 2025. The accolade, which was collected by Rupert and Sophie Pugh, (pictured) was awarded to the Heights for a record breaking seventh year.
The Gold award for overall excellence is only given to a handful of tourism businesses every year, following detailed judging and assessment of all aspects of the visitor experience by industry professionals. Other Gold winners in 2025 include the National Gallery and the Imperial War Museum in London and the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire. The Heights was the only Gold winner in Derbyshire this year.
The latest award marks the seventh time that the Heights has received the Gold award, demonstrating a impressive consistent commitment to delivering the highest possible standards of excellence for visitors to the cable car, caverns and hilltop estate.
Rupert Pugh (Development Director) said today: “Standards across the Visitor attractions industry continue to rise every year, but the Heights of Abraham has managed to maintain our outstanding accreditation through the hard work, outstanding guest hospitality and the commitment of our team to give our visitors the very best experience when they visit us. Obtaining the Gold accreditation requires an overall score of at least 97% across all areas of the business, and receiving this award for seven years is a matter of great pride to everyone who works here”.
The Pugh family received news of the win as they prepared for the second ever “Lights of Abraham” winter trail, which opens to the public on November 20th. The spectacular light trail was a huge success in 2024, and has been expanded to included many new features and effects this year.
