Moderns Rugby Football Club in Wilford is seeking the support of a Nottingham business to help deliver a parcel of donated rugby kit to Molo Rugby Football Club in Kenya.
Moderns, the only rugby club within Nottingham City Council’s boundaries, has collected almost 20kg of playing kit for Molo RFC. The Kenyan club was founded in 2008 following the country’s post-election violence, using rugby to bring together young people from communities that had previously been divided.
Today, Molo RFC works with 55 registered players across its Under-15, Under-18 and senior teams. It also runs a schools coaching programme, providing young people with structure, positive role models and a pathway into the sport.
The club has achieved a remarkable amount with very limited resources. Its players have progressed to Kenya’s top domestic league and the international sevens circuit, while kit previously donated by a UK rugby club remained Molo’s main playing strip for many years.
Moderns has now assembled its latest parcel of shirts and other kit, weighing 19.2kg, but needs approximately £250 to cover the cost of sending it safely to Kenya.
We are looking for one Nottingham business to fund the delivery, or a small number of businesses to share the cost. In return, Moderns will:
- Announce the support through its social media channels
- Include the supporting business in photographs and content before the parcel is sent
- Arrange photographs and video from Kenya showing the kit arriving and being used
- Tag and thank the business in follow-up social posts
- Provide content the business can share through its own channels
- Acknowledge the contribution as part of the developing partnership between Moderns RFC and Molo RFC
This is a relatively modest request, but one that will make a genuine and highly visible difference. It will put good-quality rugby kit directly into the hands of players who need it, while helping two community clubs, more than 4,000 miles apart, build a lasting connection through the game.
