The ‘Big Reveal’ of a brand new Nottingham version of the world’s most popular board game takes place later this week – and will see Old Market Square de-throne Nottingham Castle as ‘The Mayfair of Nottingham’.
The new version also sees another major change as Nottingham Forest’s City Ground stadium moves UP the board to a more expensive spot than its rivals Notts. County.
The new game comes 24 years after the city first ‘Passed GO’ and, say the makers: “This is a new board for a new generation”. The launch of the MONOPOLY: Nottingham Edition game takes place at Victoria Centre on Friday (28th November 2025), just in time for Christmas 2025.
In all, more than 30 Nottingham landmarks and organisations feature on the board, including: Old Market Square, both football stadiums, The Robin Hood Statue, Old Market Square, the Goose Fair, Victoria Centre, Nottingham Express Transit (NET), The Lace Market, Nottingham Castle, Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem and lots of other Nottingham A-List landmarks.
The four train stations from the original classic London MONOPOLY take a twist too. They become a travel set, including Nottingham’s tram network.
Three Nottingham charities get to star in the game too. They each get to star on a Community Chest space all on their own. The trio of charities are: When You Wish Upon a Star, Emmanuel House and Brinsley Animal Rescue.
Other twists in this edition see the Chance and Community Chest cards customised, with one of the bespoke cards docking players MONOPOLY money for “hitting a pothole on Mansfield Road’.
“The board is a celebration of everything Nottingham,” says a delighted John Keen-Tomlinson, from the makers of this unique game, Winning Moves UK.
The board is themed in sets from heritage to sport, shopping to business, education to travel – plus lots more, all to reflect the vibrancy of the city. The shopping set – in typical MONOPOLY fashion – sees Victoria Centre landing a big double. It not only appears in the game – on its very own orange square, which is the most densely visited set in MONOPOLY – but it is hosting the official launch too.
“We’re thrilled that Victoria Centre has landed a prime spot on the new MONOPOLY: Nottingham Edition board game and to be hosting the official launch,” says Nigel Wheatley, Centre Director at Victoria Centre. “For generations, MONOPOLY has brought people together, just like Victoria Centre, which has been a central hub for Nottingham shoppers and families for decades. It’s an honour to see our iconic centre featured on a game that celebrates the heart of our city.”
Part of the travel set are Nottingham Express Transit (NET), whose Head of Marketing Alison Sweeney says: “As a network that has been an integral part of the city for more than 20 years, we’re pleased to celebrate in this exciting moment for Nottingham. Monopoly is an iconic game that has shaped the memories of so many generations, so it’s fantastic for the city to be once again recognised with its own board. Nottingham is known for its local pride, and I’m sure lots of families will enjoy playing their favourite game this Christmas and beyond.“
The business set is headed up by Capital One UK, a top ten credit provider and one of Nottingham’s biggest employers. Capital One UK appears on a red space (Trafalgar Square from the classic London original MONOPOLY game). Price to buy: £240.
Paul Brown, Vice President at Capital One UK, says: “Trent House on Nottingham’s Station Street has been our home since Capital One set up its UK headquarters in 1996. Over the last 30 years, we’ve established deep links with the local community; employing local people at all stages in their careers. We have also helped thousands of pupils from local schools to build their employability, financial literacy and numeracy skills through our award-winning outreach programmes and supported local charities with donations and volunteering schemes. We have even sponsored local sports teams like Nottingham Forest. Our place on the new board is a wonderful testament to our enduring connection to our hometown and our dedication to making Nottingham a city to be proud of.”
Megan Powell Vreeswijk, CEO of Marketing Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, says: “It’s incredibly exciting to see Nottingham getting a brand-new edition of MONOPOLY. The new board showcases everything that makes Nottingham such a special place to live, work, and visit, from its legendary history to its vibrant culture and sporting heritage. We’re also thrilled that our Nottingham Tourism Centre will be stocking the game, giving visitors and residents alike the chance to take home a fun and iconic piece of Nottingham. It’s a fantastic way to shine a spotlight on the city and we’re thrilled to be a part of it.”
Winning Moves UK, an official MONOPOLY maker, has produced the brand-new MONOPOLY: Nottingham Edition board game, under license from Hasbro, a leading games, IP and toy company.
The MONOPOLY: Nottingham Edition hits the shops at 10am this Friday (28th November 2025). The board will be available at Waterstones, TGJones and at the Nottingham Tourism Centre priced at £35 – as well as online at Amazon, winningmoves.co.uk and booghe.co.uk
