The museum’s Tour of Broxtowe will start on Saturday 8 June at the Hemlock Happening in Bramcote Hills Park, where there will be museum experts on-hand with a range of activities for all the family including:
- Object handling
- Vintage crafts
- Activities
- Gifts and more
There will also be a range of gifts, jewellery, homewares, children’s toys and Lawrence- themed items available to buy from the museum’s gift shop.
The museum tour will then continue at:
- Hemlock Happening – 8 June, Bramcote Hills Park, 1.00pm until 6.00pm*
- Chilwell Play Day – 30 July, Inham Nook Recreation Ground, 12.00pm until 4.00pm
- Eastwood Play Day – 1 August, Coronation Park, 12.00pm until 4.00pm
- Stapleford Play Day – 5 August, Ilkeston Road Recreation Ground, 12.00pm until 4.00pm
- Kimberley Play Day – 8 August, Kimberley School Field, 12.00pm until 4.00pm*
- Beeston Play Day – 12 August, Broadgate Park, 12.00pm until 4.00pm
*The museum building will be closed on this date as our Museum Experts visit the play day.
Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Health, Councillor Chris Carr said: “Of course, we love to welcome visitors to the museum itself but it’s also important for us to go out and share Lawrence’s fascinating life, as well as Broxtowe’s history with people across the wider Borough and beyond. Our pop up museum events will be a great addition to our popular summer events programme and will offer people of all ages an opportunity to learn something new about the local area where they live.”
If you can’t make one of the pop up events, you can still visit the museum, on Victoria Street, Eastwood where you can step back in time to experience the traditional Victorian wash house, see the parlour; a room only for special guests, feel the warmth of the fire in the kitchen and have a wander around the parental and other bedrooms. The museum’s permanent exhibition features items from Lawrence’s family and even paintings created by the author himself.
