NOTTDANCE FESTIVAL RETURNS OCTOBER 2022. PRODUCED BY FABRIC – A NEW ORGANISATION FORMED BY THE MERGE OF DANCE4 IN NOTTINGHAM AND DANCEXCHANGE IN BIRMINGHAM.

Nottdance returns in 2022, bringing you a season of dance and choreographic ideas and works.

As a site for experimentation, Nottdance has and continues to be a context to explore new ideas and new approaches in dance and choreography. Sharing great works from artists whose home, place of work or international destination is Nottingham; this Nottdance season will offer performances, discussions, workshops and social events for our communities near and far.

Inhabiting the city’s theatres, galleries, shopping centres and outdoor spaces, all the works reflect on the city and world we live in. Themes of touch, care, decolonisation, personal archives and labour are present as we celebrate being back together with live events in Nottdance 2022.

This season has been imagined and will be brought to life in collaboration with artists, our partners and neighbours taking place during the month of October from Wednesday 5th through to Saturday 29th.

As we close the chapter on Dance4 and open a new one with FABRIC, we’re collaborating with partners, artists and our city to explore what the future of Nottdance can be. Much has happened in recent years; we’ve tried some different approaches and as producers and custodians of the festival we will be asking questions and holding conversation to consider the development of Nottdance. No matter the frame, Nottdance shall continue to be a cultural offer for Nottingham, a programme to celebrate the globally formed community that call the city home.

Sam Thorne, Director, Nottingham Contemporary (Nottdance 2022 venue partner)

“We are thrilled to be building on Nottingham Contemporary’s longstanding partnership with Nottdance to inaugurate this new chapter with FABRIC. We look forward to welcoming new audiences to experience pioneering approaches to performance and choreography.”

Shona Powell OBE, Director, Lakeside Arts (Nottdance 2022 venue partner)

“Since May 2002 Lakeside have been co-promoters and partners of NOTTDANCE. Always memorable, that year the programme included First Class Air Mail – a stunning collection of internationally renowned choreographers performing their own solo works with Henri Oguike, Ben Wright and Russell Maliphant all of whom built relationships with Lakeside. We’re proud that our collaboration with Nottdance has thrived for 20 years, and eagerly anticipate the next edition this autumn in partnership with FABRIC following the merge of Dance4 in Nottingham and DanceXchange in Birmingham. An exciting new venture with our existing colleagues in Nottingham and new colleagues in Birmingham.”
