Nottingham Carnival, originating in 1958, was a cultural event organised by immigrants from St Kitts, promoting their Caribbean identity through colourful costumes and traditional entertainment. Despite sporadic events between 1958 and the early 90s, the event was revived in the early 90s but was cancelled in ‘98 due to health, safety, and financing concerns. The community’s outcry led to a large march in the city center, establishing the modern Nottingham Carnival in 1999 which, apart from the Covid years has been held every year since under the leadership of Tuntum Housing Association.

We continue to make this local celebration possible with funding from ticket sales, and support from sponsors Arts Council England, Nottingham City Council, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Gary Godden, and Tuntum Housing Association, plus invaluable support from the community. Despite rising costs and a huge increase in outgoings each year, the team – including many volunteers, have worked tirelessly since 1999.
