Popular Gin and Gaslight event returns to the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum for 2025

The award winning D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum will host its first gin and gaslight event of the year on Friday 9 May.

On arrival guests will be greeted by Victorian hosts with an aperitif. They are welcome to join in and dress in Victorian attire if they wish, as well as being able to explore the house and exhibitions by gaslight.

Guests will also have time to engage with the hosts and learn more about D.H. Lawrence and his literary legacy. Finally, guests will be offered several gins to sample and learn about their history and flavour profiles.

Carolyn Melbourne, Museums and Collections Officer says, “This event makes a very special evening out. Seeing the Museum lit by gaslight at night is such an authentic experience, and the gin tasting is a lot of fun too.”

Gin and Gaslight is always a popular evening and places are limited, book today to avoid disappointment. Tickets cost £17.50 per person and the event will be held on Friday 9 May from 7pm – 9pm. To book visit the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museums Eventbrite page (opens in a new window).

The D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum is where this literary legend was born on 11 September 1885. Only 30 minutes from Nottingham city centre, the Museum is a must see for fans of literature, and for those wanting to delve deeper into Nottingham’s literary heritage.

Step back in time to experience the traditional Victorian wash house, see the parlour; a room only for special guests, and have a wander around the parental and other bedrooms. The museum’s permanent exhibition features items from Lawrence’s family and even paintings created by the author himself.
