‘Stepping Up’ – Stagecoach East Midlands bus Drivers aim for 50 million steps in walking challenge

  • Bus Drivers, Engineers, Presentation and Support colleagues take walking challenge
  • Aim for 50 million extra steps by October
  • Prizes on offer

Drivers, Engineers and members of the Presentation and Support teams at a Nottinghamshire bus operator have embarked on a health and wellbeing challenge – that aims to see them walk 50 million extra steps.

The intrepid bus professionals have taken on the ‘Stagecoach Step Up Challenge’, which runs until October. The distances are being logged and reported on an app, with participants encouraged to stay in touch, to encourage each other in their efforts.

The challenge has been organised by James Bell, Health and Wellbeing Rep, and highlights the importance of the work done, across the region, by Stagecoach East Midlands’ Health and Wellbeing Reps.

Matt Cranwell, Managing Director of Stagecoach East Midlands, said:

“It has been wonderful to see how the team have taken to this challenge, and to see so many people ‘stepping up’. The message is: it does not matter if you are a regular walker, or can only start by doing a little bit, let’s get moving – every step really does count!

“One of our fundamental values, at Stagecoach, is that ‘we are stronger together’, so it is very important that we support our colleagues at every stage as they grow as part of our team. These challenges really highlight the importance of our Health and Wellbeing Reps, and are just one way that we can show our support.”

The challenge comes just days after it was announced that that two members of the Stagecoach East Midlands team, Dave McMullan and Kim Whitehead – known as the Stagecoach Strollers – are in training to tackle the North Yorkshire Ultra, which will see them walk 100 kilometres in 24 hours, from Scarborough to Whitby and back.

They are aiming to raise £1,200 for the Lincolnshire and Nottingham Air Ambulance. Donations can be made at https://www.justgiving.com/team/david-mcmullan-8?utm_medium=TE&utm_source=CL.
