What better way to usher in the festive season than with a trip to the pantomime, and this year’s star-studded production of Cinderella (28 Nov to 4 Jan) at the Theatre Royal promises to make a fab-u-lous start to everyone’s Christmas season. More festive family fun can be found with The Muppet Christmas Carol (30 Nov), Home Alone in Concert (5 Dec), Christmas at the Movies (7 Dec), Beanbag Music Club: Festive Fun (13 Dec), The Snowman Live (21 Dec), Horrible Christmas (27 Dec), and Taylormania (30 Dec).
Two much-loved classical concert favourites return this year, with The Hallé Christmas Concert (17 Dec) and Sinfonia Viva’s New’s Year Gala (31 Dec), ending the year on a high note with a delightful mix of nostalgia and celebration. Enthusiastic carollers will also get their chance to shine at the NTU Chamber Choir’s free lunchtime Christmas Concert (8 Dec), and Nottingham Harmonic Choir’s ever-popular Family Carol Concert (20 Dec), joined once again by Thoresby Colliery Band.
And the music plays on, with the dulcet tones of Christmas with Tenebrae: In Winter’s House (1 Dec), Nottingham Harmonic Choir: Messiah (6 Dec), plus more festive favourites with the Highly Strung Quartet: Hark! The Herald Angels’ Strings (13 Dec). To help fill the Twixmas gap, why not take an epic cinematic journey through The Music of Zimmer vs Williams (28 Dec).
Tony Hadley brings a celebration of crooner classics with his Christmas Band Tour (16 Dec), festive folk singer Kate Rusby returns (19 Dec), and there will be a stocking-full of showstoppers with Christmas at the Musicals (18 Dec), Swing into Christmas with the Down for the Count Orchestra (22 Dec), and the Christmas song spectacular Step Into Christmas (23 Dec).
If you are looking for some extra Christmas cheer, the country’s best comedians are coming together for a spectacular all-star Live At Christmas show (12 Dec), featuring Simon Amstell, Lucy Beaumont, Phil Wang, and Sarah Keyworth. Join the Theatre Royal Players for festive comedy Inn Side Story (20 Dec) or prepare to be enchanted by a dance legend in Christmas with Anton Du Beke (2 Dec).
And finally, if you wish it could be Christmas every day, extend the season into the New Year with a slice of pure escapism in Christmas Carol Goes Wrong (27 Jan to 31 Jan).
To make your theatre trip extra special this Christmas, there are a range of pre- and post- show dining and drinks offers available through the venue’s Royal Partners, plus discounted travel with a show ticket. Find out more here.
