New Nottingham Tag Rugby League Moves to Nottingham Hockey Centre Following Rapid Growth

Try Tag Rugby Nottingham’s thriving community heads to a new home for its Autumn and Winter seasons

A brand-new social sports community that has attracted more than 90 players in just a few months is moving to a new home ahead of its Autumn Season.

Try Tag Rugby Nottingham has announced that from September, its Monday night leagues will take place at Nottingham Hockey Centre in Wollaton, providing players with an all-weather floodlit venue as the community continues to grow.

Launched earlier this year by Nottingham resident Patrick Alexander, the league has quickly become one of the city’s newest social sports communities, welcoming people of all ages, backgrounds and sporting abilities.

Unlike traditional rugby, Tag Rugby is mixed-gender, non-contact and beginner-friendly, with many players having never picked up a rugby ball before joining.

The move to Nottingham Hockey Centre represents the next step in the league’s growth and will allow the community to continue throughout the autumn and winter months on high-quality artificial pitches.

Patrick Alexander, League Manager for Try Tag Rugby Nottingham, said:

“When we launched earlier this year our ambition was simple – create a fun, welcoming community where people could get active, meet new people and enjoy playing sport, regardless of experience.

“The response has been incredible. We’ve grown to more than 95 players across eight teams in just a few months, and what has been most rewarding has been seeing complete strangers become teammates and friends.

“Moving to Nottingham Hockey Centre gives us an excellent long-term home. The floodlit pitches, fantastic facilities and central location mean we can continue growing the community throughout the year, whatever the weather.”

One of the league’s biggest successes has been attracting people who may never previously have considered joining a sports club.

Many players joined on their own, having never played rugby before, with the social aspect becoming just as important as the matches themselves. Weekly post-match socials and end-of-season celebrations have helped create a welcoming atmosphere that has generated dozens of five-star reviews from players.

The Autumn Season begins on Monday 7 September, while free taster sessions are taking place beforehand for anyone interested in giving the sport a try.

Upcoming free taster sessions include:

  • Monday 24 August – 7:00pm
  • Thursday 27 August – 6:45pm

Both sessions will take place at Nottingham Moderns Rugby Club in Wilford.

No previous rugby experience is required, with all equipment provided and newcomers actively encouraged.

Registration for both the Autumn Season and the free taster sessions is now open.
