City Centre cycle route construction moves on to Hollowstone and Fisher Gate
Work is continuing at pace on new cycle routes across Nottingham.
The Nottingham City Council scheme, through the Transforming Cities Fund, will connect existing routes along Daleside Road and Castle Boulevard with new cycle lanes – to make cycling through the city easier, safer and more enjoyable.
Work started in the summer to create a new segregated cycle track around London Road Island, which is now mostly complete. There will be some resurfacing and landscaping works in the spring. The next stage of the project will move onto Hollowstone and Fisher Gate.
Councillor Angela Kandola, Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Transport, said:
“Better cycle facilities encourage more people to start cycling – which is great for physical and mental health, as well as tackling carbon emissions. I’m pleased that the new and improved cycle track around the London Road Island is nearly complete, and we thank everyone for their patience while works were under way.
“The next phase of this project is to carry on construction along Hollowstone and Fisher Gate which will ultimately connect with the Eastern Cycle corridor along Daleside Road offering a safe, segregated route from the east to the west of the city.”
From Monday 30 October, the next phase of works will move on to Hollowstone and Fisher Gate.
Works include:
- Installing a new toucan crossing (a push button crossing for pedestrians and cyclists) on Hollowstone.
- Creating a shared footway and cycleway on Hollowstone, between London Road and Hollowstone.
- Creating a segregated cycleway along Fisher Gate, linking with the new path from London Road Island.
- Resurfacing pavements where required.
- Resurfacing the road and installing new lining (This will take place in 2024).
