From Welbeck to the World – a new exhibition at The Harley Gallery celebrates local artist Kyra Cane as her interiors collection goes global

A new exhibition at The Harley Gallery, Welbeck, follows the threads of a two-year collaboration between ceramic artist Kyra Cane and the interiors brand Villa Nova at Romo.

The exhibition, Kyra Cane: From Potter’s Wheel to Interior Décor, will be on show from 14th May until 24th July 2022.

Kyra Cane is a highly acclaimed ceramicist who is based in the Harley Studios on the historic Welbeck estate near Worksop. She is recognised for her fine porcelain pots which often feature a painterly black and white finish, which she applies by hand she applies by hand after the initial biscuit firing.

Her work can be found in prestigious collections, and her commissions include pieces for the Royal Suite in the Dorchester Hotel, London, large-scale bespoke pots for some of the most luxurious cruise ships in the world, and pieces for the famous Shangri-La Hotel, The Shard, London.

For the last two-years, she has been collaborating with the interiors brand Villa Nova to create an interiors collection, with rugs, fabrics, cushions and wallcoverings among the items that have been created.

The collection was launched in January and is available worldwide from a broad network of interior designers and retail outlets, offering people an opportunity to own Kyra’s artistic designs in a new form.

It includes a design called ‘Welbeck’, directly inspired by the landscape near her studio, ‘Drifting’ which captures Kyra’s signature ceramic style, and a tempting range of designs which are inspired by landscapes and weather patterns. Some are taken from Kyra’s ceramics, and some are from her sketchbooks.

To turn these artworks into an interiors collection has taken a skilled team of artists, textiles and print specialists who have worked to translate Kyra’s art into these new products. This care and attention has made sure that the Collection has stayed true to Kyra’s vision.

Kyra Cane: From Potter’s Wheel to Interior Décor explores this process and showcases the finished interiors products alongside Kyra’s original ceramics.

It is part of The Harley Gallery’s ‘Visions of Welbeck’ season, a series of exhibitions that each explore different visions of the historic Welbeck estate. Visitors can also enjoy an exhibition about the life of The 5th Duke of Portland, Recycled Sculptures by Michelle Reader, who is also based in The Harley Studios, and miniatures by contemporary artist Sofia Mitsola shown alongside historical paintings from The Portland Collection.
