David Stickman ensemble

Jazz Steps and Inspire present a night of spoken word poetry and funky jazz as part of the Inspire Poetry Festival 2024

Accomplished jazz performance poet and percussionist David ‘Stickman’ Higgins and his jazz-funk ensemble will be performing at Worksop Library on Tuesday 1 October, 7.30pm, sharing pieces shaped by Higgins’ life experience and British Caribbean heritage.

This special performance is part of the annual Inspire Poetry Festival, and includes new work inspired by the free Beyond the Bassline exhibition in the library, which has been brought to Worksop Library for the festival.

Jazz fans – rest assured, this evening of poetry comes with a full-on jazz-funk groove. Poetry fans – experience something unique and special: reflective, rhythmic jazz with poetry-as-performance!

In the past, Higgins toured internationally as the drummer with Kalima, a band promoted by Manchester’s famous Factory Records. His current ensemble are also top-draw musicians.

He’s also contributed to numerous poetry anthologies and works extensively in education contexts where he’s created stimulating poetry resources.

Line-up: David Stickman Higgins, vocals & percussion; Andy Metcalfe, guitar; Karl Bingham, bass; Barry Lee, keyboards; Simon Potts, drum kit.

Date: Tuesday 1 October

Time: 7.30pm
