Join the Festivities: Nottinghamshire Celebrates King Charles III’s Coronation in Style

Nottinghamshire is gearing up to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III with all the pomp and circumstance you’d expect to go with such an occasion, with a range of exciting events and activities taking place throughout the region. From coronation concerts in Castles to afternoon tea fit for royalty, there’s something for everyone.

From May 1st to May 7th, visitors can enjoy a range of Coronation-themed events and activities throughout the region. Tourism chiefs at Visit Nottinghamshire have picked some of the region’s top events so you can sit back, relax and soak in the atmosphere:

King’s Coronation Royal Raceday: Join Southwell Racecourse for a Royal Bank Holiday Raceday at Southwell Racecourse. Their Royal Raceday on the 8th of May will be a huge celebration – a street party like no other, with thrilling racing action on the track and live entertainment for you to enjoy with friends and family throughout the day. Admission is free.

The Big Royal Get Together: Visit Rufford Abbey for an extended weekend to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III! Running across the coronation weekend, visitors can enjoy a range of activities and entertainment, including archery, a big picnic, fair rides and more. Prices vary depending on the event.

Coronation Weekend at Bustler: Bustler is back to celebrate Charles! Coronation weekend down at the Avenues in Sneinton will host one of Nottingham’s largest parties with delicious street food and happy hours galore. Entry is free to the event and times vary across the Coronation weekend.

Coronation Celebration – The Big Lunch: An afternoon of brass bands, picnics, knitting and family entertainment will be held in Berry Hill Park on Sunday 7 May, from 12 noon to 4pm, the day after His Majesty is officially crowned as King at Westminster Abbey. It is part of the national Big Lunch events to mark the Coronation so visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic and blanket and have lunch al fresco on the grass. There will be food vendors at the event and the park café will also be open.

God Save the King: A Coronation Concert: On Friday 5th May the Catholic Diocese of Nottingham is kickstarting the Coronation weekend with a concert in the King’s honour, to be held at Nottingham Cathedral. Invited by Bishop Patrick McKinney, civic dignitaries from across the city, county, and diocese – including Nottinghamshire’s Lord Lieutenant Sir John Peace – will be in attendance, with the evening promising to be a joyful musical celebration marking this new Carolean era. Tickets from £10.

Coronation Concert: On this most auspicious of weekends, the Nottinghamshire Band of the Royal Engineers will perform a free open-air concert at Sherwood Forest on the 7th of May at 11am. It’s the second year that the band has performed at the National Nature Reserve, and this year the performance will mark not only the Coronation of King Charles III but VE Day too!

Great Music Weekend at Heights of Abraham: This event takes place at Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath from May 6th to May 8th. Visitors can enjoy a range of music performances across each day of the weekend. Normal admission fees apply.

Coronation Afternoon Tea: A favourite of the Royal Family over the years, what could be a more fitting way to celebrate the coronation weekend? This afternoon tea with Lace Market favourite Debbie Bryan is fit for Royalty, with a delicious Early Grey Fizz cocktail and their popular afternoon tea menu, come to Debbie Bryan on the 6th of May. Tickets start at £30pp and can be purchased online.

Coronation Weekend at Belvoir Castle: Come along to a right royal celebration of King Charles III’s accession to the throne on the 7th and 8th of May. This regal Castle is the perfect backdrop for the occasion, complete with the best of British food and drink and entertainment. It’s a street party-style celebration to remember – complete with plenty of bunting, of course! Normal admission prices apply.

Coronation Concert at Nottingham Castle: On Sunday evening, the Coronation Concert will be shown live from Windsor and streamed to Nottingham Castle. The line-up of performers includes Take That, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, Andrea Bocelli, Sir Bryn Terfel, Freya Ridings and Alexis Ffrench, with more to be announced. The concert will celebrate a new chapter in the nation’s history, with themes of love, respect and optimism, celebrating the four nations, their communities and the Commonwealth. Don’t miss out!

King’s Coronation Party at Southwell Minster: On Saturday the 6th of May, join Southwell Minster for their indoor street party to celebrate the Kings Coronation. The Minster will be live streaming the coronation on their giant cinema screen from 11am, with celebrations starting immediately after at around 12.30pm.
