A Nottinghamshire distillery has launched a new limited-edition rum, with just 550 bottles being made available across the UK.
The award-winning, modern British rum producer DropWorks Rum ferments, distils, ages and bottles on the Welbeck Estate and can produce up to 1.5 million bottles of rum a year.
The new Distiller’s Drop #003, has been matured for 29 months in American Oak, with one third of the liquid finished in Scotch Whisky Octave Casks. This latest release is part of its limited-edition Distiller’s
Drop series, which explores different approaches to flavour development through different casks, maturation techniques and modern British rum making. “We want to redefine what people expect from rum by making uniquely full-flavoured British rum and move beyond artificial flavourings,” said Lewis Hayes, DropWorks Rum Founder and Master Distiller. “Our new Distiller’s Drop #003 has notes of golden toffee popcorn, warming spiced gingerbread and a rich smoky finish. That combination gives drinkers a distinctive flavour profile that works both neat and in cocktails.”
DropWorks was founded in 2023 by Nottingham-based Lewis Hayes, a drinks industry entrepreneur with more than 20 years’ experience behind the bar, building venues and developing cocktail concepts. The distillery, the largest in Europe, DropWorks is available at leading hospitality venues across the UK, including The Ivy Brasserie, The Clove Club and Moor Hall, and at more than a third of the UK’s top 50 cocktail bars.
This limited edition “Drop” supports the DropWorks’ core range of rums that includes Barrel Drop, Clear Drop, Dark Drop, Funk Drop and Spice Drop.
In addition to its range of rums, the team also hosts Distillery Tours exploring the 17,000 sq ft distillery with expert guides, discovering how DropWorks creates its distinctive British rum from scratch. In addition, the team offers Meet the Distiller Private Tours as well as a newly launched Cask Tasting Experience where
