Derby racing driver Tom Wood is set to take centre stage at this year’s SuperCar Sunday at the Priest House in Castle Donington before heading off to compete in the legendary 24 Hours of Spa endurance race.
The 24-year-old GT3 driver will appear at the event on Sunday June 7 for a live Q&A with fans, sharing stories from life in the fast lane before tackling one of the toughest races in world motorsport.
Last year, over 128,000 people gathered at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium to watch the 75 entrants compete in the round the clock race. This year, Tom Wood will be lining up for this ultimate test of GT endurance.
James Bowie, general manager at Priest House said:
“It is a real pleasure to have Tom as our guest speaker for the event especially before such a big race. He is a local hero!”
He said:
“As a successful sports car racer for Aston Martin, and someone who has been around the sport from an early age, Tom has a wealth of knowledge. We felt the audience would love to hear about his journey through motorsport and it may even inspire young people at the event to consider taking up the sport.”
Tom has a long history with Castle Donington and Donington Park racetrack. It stems from his parents’ love of motorsport. Growing up in Castle Donington, he recalls watching motorbike racing at Donington Park with his parents and says he’s always loved cars and planes.”
Amazingly, although aged just 24, Tom has been racing for 18 years. He first venturing onto the tarmac when he was just 6 years old and prior to that says his pedal go kart was his go to toy.
He said:
“I wanted to get behind the wheel early on, at three and half I was go karting but when I outgrew that and wanted to race, the closest place that would allow a 6-year-old to race in a petrol kart was in Kent. As a family, we headed there and I’ve been hooked ever since.
“There was never any pressure from my parents to race, I was having fun and they followed that lead and have supported me throughout. I’m super competitive and once I started winning races, well I wanted more.”
Racking up a string of podium moments, Tom turned professional in 2025 and raced for Aston Martin in the British GT Championship Car Multi manufacturing championships. The Beechdean AMR team won the Silver AM title.
In June, the Derby born star will be returning to his roots and answering questions at the Priest House event about how he made it into professional driving, what the future holds for him, and he’ll be talking the audience through the highs and lows of his career, including his strenuous fitness regime, the crashes and podium moments.
He said:
“Yes, there are crashes and when you do, or you have a bad race, you have to bounce back. That’s been my attitude since the age of 6, you have to grow up quickly.
“When I was 8 years old, I admit I was ready to give up after a crash. My parents said go back out for one more session and if you don’t want to race anymore after that then that’s okay. I went back out and never looked back. You have to have that attitude after a crash, if you don’t, you need to find another sport. It is all about resilience and things can change quickly with the right outlook and drive. A low point for me came during a two-day race event in Austria in 2024. I crashed out on the first lap of the Saturday race but then came back on the Sunday for a podium moment.”
He continued: “On the flip side, the high points are really high. For me, it was my debut in a GT3 with Beechdean AMR at Brands Hatch. I set a lap record with the #97 Aston Martin Vantage GT3.”
The SuperCar event will showcase some 70-90 super cars, classic and vintage models and there will be two brand new GT cars on display from Everyman Racing and there may even be an appearance from a £1million Porsche.
Tom said:
“I’m looking forward to the SuperCar event in Castle Donington. It will be a full circle moment. I love racing at Donington Park, it’s my home track, and I have a lot of family history tied up with the Priest House. My Mum worked at the hotel before I was born, my parents were married there, and I grew up in Castle Donington, so the venue is very familiar to me.”
As well as Tom’s Q&A session, events and attractions will include Monaco Grand prix on the PA, Drive Nation machines, a band on the deck later in the afternoon and there will be a chance to buy future driving experiences with Everyman Driving Experiences.
James Bowie added:
“The event will be a great family day out and in a beautiful location. There will be great food available and live music in the afternoon. Last year, the rain didn’t deter visitors, and attendance was brilliant, we’re working on bigger and better this year and have already clocked up around 500 tickets registered. We can’t wait to welcome Tom. He is making such great progress in the industry and has had some great successes, we’re excited to hear his story and see what’s still to come.”
The Priest House SuperCar Sunday event will be held from 11.00am on Sunday, June 7, 2026. Entry is free with registration. Register your interest at www.thepriesthouse.co.uk/hotel-events
