Lovell is helping to inspire the next generation of construction professionals through a new partnership with Newark College that will give 150 students exclusive access to active construction sites across Newark over the next year.
Running throughout the academic year, the programme will provide young people studying a range of construction disciplines the opportunity to visit live Lovell developments to gain valuable first-hand experience of working on a major building site and learn about the wide range of careers available within the industry.
During each visit, students will receive a comprehensive health and safety induction before taking part in guided tours of the development. They will also have the opportunity to engage directly with construction professionals across a variety of disciplines, including carpentry, brickwork, plumbing, electrical installation, maintenance and site management.
The programme forms part of Lovell’s ongoing commitment to addressing skills shortages within the construction industry and supporting future talent through apprenticeships, training opportunities and career development programmes.
By connecting education with industry, the partnership aims to strengthen local skills development while helping to build a pipeline of future talent for the construction sector across Nottinghamshire and the wider East Midlands.
Regional managing director for Lovell in the East Midlands, Beth Bundonis, said:
“The construction industry offers a huge range of rewarding career opportunities, but for many young people, stepping onto a live construction site is something they may never have experienced before. Through this partnership with Newark College, we’re giving students a valuable insight into how a development comes together and introducing them to the skilled professionals who make it happen.
“We are passionate about investing in future talent and hope these visits will inspire students to consider careers in construction, whether through apprenticeships, further education or direct employment within the industry.”
The initiative marks the first time Newark College has been able to offer students structured visits to active construction sites, providing an invaluable bridge between classroom learning and real-world practice.
Paul Gregory, assistant principal for construction and engineering at Lincoln and Newark College, said:
“This partnership gives our students a unique opportunity to see the construction industry in action and understand how the skills they are learning in college are applied on real projects. Access to live sites and interaction with experienced professionals provides invaluable learning experiences that simply cannot be replicated in the classroom.
“We’re delighted to be working with Lovell to offer these opportunities and help our students develop the knowledge, confidence and industry awareness that will support them as they progress into employment or further training.”
