Marketing NG launches #NottGoingOut campaign

As the coronavirus crisis continues, Marketing NG – the official Place Marketing Organisation for Nottingham and Nottinghamshire – has launched its new #NottGoingOut campaign to provide information, ideas and inspiration for those remaining at home during the nationwide lockdown.

Whilst Marketing NG’s role is ordinarily to promote Nottingham and Nottinghamshire as a tourist destination and showcase the region’s wide range of attractions, hotels, restaurants and retailers as well as attracting business visitors, investors and developers, the organisation has responded to the crisis by setting up an online hub on its website with information, ideas and inspiration about the exciting things people can experience from the comfort and safety of their own home.

The brand-new #NottGoingOut campaign, led by Visit Nottinghamshire and supported by other departments within Marketing NG, includes a section on the Visit Nottinghamshire website signposting people to a range of resources from Nottingham and Nottinghamshire’s businesses and organisations. This includes immersive virtual experiences, online tours, educational resources and interactive games from organisations and businesses including the National Justice Museum, Nottingham Playhouse, Nottingham Castle, Nottingham Forest and Nottingham Contemporary. It lists the restaurants and shops offering collection and home delivery, and provides details about businesses offering gift vouchers for those wanting something to look forward to or to treat a friend or family member.

Visitors to the website can also learn about Nottingham and Nottinghamshire’s fascinating culture and heritage in a series of features on a diverse range of subjects, including the fantastic history of Goose Fair, a guide to Nottingham’s dialect, a spotlight on some of the local gems and more. They will also be greeted by a message from Robin Hood himself.

There is also a section on the website with resources for professionals and businesses, which signposts them to webinars, webisodes and online learning resources and business advice from organisations including VisitEngland/VisitBritain, the D2N2 Growth Hub, the East Midlands Chamber, HMRC, the Creative Quarter and the University of Nottingham.

The idea behind the #NottGoingOut campaign is to help showcase a huge variety of exciting digital experiences, resources and local initatives, and engage both potential visitors and locals alike whilst the lockdown is in place. It aims to keep Nottingham and Nottinghamshire at the forefront of people’s minds; encouraging them to plan their trip or day out as soon as it is safe to do so. The campaign also aims to promote local businesses which are still operating in order to support them during this challenging period.

Marketing NG are encouraging organisations, businesses and individuals across Nottinghamshire to get involved with the campaign by using the hashtag #NottGoingOut on social media to share the innovative and exciting things they are doing during the coronavirus pandemic.

Kinga Kapias, Acting Marketing and Communications Manager at Visit Nottinghamshire, said:

“The COVID-19 crisis has sent shockwaves through virtually every industry, with the leisure, tourism, hospitality and retail sectors particularly affected. Whilst our role as an organisation is to encourage people to visit Nottinghamshire, we – like so many others – have had to completely rethink our activities in response to this situation.”

“By launching our #NottGoingOut campaign, we’re using our various platforms to promote the region in a socially responsible manner. Boosting Nottingham and Nottinghamshire’s reputation as a fantastic tourist and leisure destination will help to support the recovery of our local economy once this crisis is over, and we hope that showcasing some of the fantastic things people can experience in Notts right now will inspire them to plan a real – rather than virtual – visit as soon as it is safe to do so.”
