NOTTINGHAM CASTLE REVEALS EGG-CELLENT EASTER LINE UP

FOUR days of circus-themed Easter fun are coming to Nottingham Castle, with the promise of a programme jam-packed with activities for families and visitors of all ages during the bank holiday weekend.

The “Easter Weekender”, which will run from 15 to 18 April 2022, 10am to 4pm, will feature a trail of bespoke eggs hidden throughout the grounds. Explorers will need to collect a letter from each egg to claim a chocolate treat from the Castle Visitor Centre.

Circus entertainers, a bubble-ologist and stilt walkers, will roam the grounds with live music in the historic bandstand throughout the day. Daily circus workshops and a glitter face-painter are also guaranteed to draw the crowds.

A trail of beautifully decorated owls, which previously formed The Nottingham Wise Owl Walk organised by Nottingham Business Improvement District (BID), will provide the perfect opportunity for selfies. Each of the ten wise owls is completely unique and has Nottingham related names including The Sheriff of Nottinghoot, Lacey, Ey Up Duck! and Raleigh Apple.

Entrance to the festival will be included as part of the general admission with a discount for Nottingham residents in postcodes NG1 to NG16, plus other ticket options as outlined on the website. Timed entry to Robin Hood Adventures is also included in the price as well as access to the new exhibition entitled Laura Knight & Caroline Walker: A Female Gaze.

David Johns, interim COO at Nottingham Castle Trust, said: “The brief for the event was to be family-friendly and accessible for all and the team has really delivered. Taking inspiration from Laura Knight’s famed circus performer paintings, the themed entertainment, accompanied by live music and the Easter trail will be suitable for all ages and interests, backed by the fascinating objects and items already on display in our galleries. With Robin Hood Adventures also bookable and our brand-new Laura Knight and Caroline Walker exhibition also included in the ticket price, it’s a wonderful day out.”

A range of different acts will feature over the four days including renowned tabla player Mendi Singh who has played all over the world as well as previously collaborating and performing with Peter Gabriel, Darius Brubeck, Shalil Shankar, Take That and Malkit Singh MBE.

Alex Flint, CEO of Nottingham BID, said: “The owls were a great hit with visitors and families last year, so we are delighted to be partnering with Nottingham Castle to provide another opportunity for people to enjoy the colourful creations. Easter weekend at the Castle looks set to be a great day out for families and visitors to Nottingham.”
