Nottingham Playhouse’s Amplify Ideas Submissions are now open for Midlands creatives

Nottingham Playhouse’s Amplify artist development programme has opened its Ideas Submissions window for new work, calling for theatremakers across the Midlands to submit their ideas.

Amplify Ideas Submissions are opened twice a year and provide an opportunity for artists with a connection to the Midlands to present their ideas, whatever stage of development they are at, and ask for support. The Ideas Submission window is now open and closes at 12 noon on Thursday 18 June.

Nottingham Playhouse looks to develop relationships with artists by learning about the work they are making or are excited to make. Ideas submitted might be for devised work, scripted work, a festival or event. These ideas will then be reviewed by a panel including creatives from Nottingham Playhouse, a freelance representative, as well as other Midlands arts organisations. All applicants will receive a follow up after the submission, with every artist given the offer of feedback, many given signposting support and a select few ideas receiving longer term investment and or development support.

Previous successful Ideas Submissions include Village Idiot by Samson Hawkins. Samson applied to the first ever Ideas Submission, asking for support to put the show on at his local village hall. After much development, Village Idiot was produced by Nottingham Playhouse and Stratford East as a Ramps on the Moon production on the main stage.

Artist Development Producer Beccy D’Souza said:

“Ideas Submissions is one of my favourite offers for Amplify artists. It’s a privilege to get to know the artists in the region and the work they are excited to be making, whether they are early in their career or have years of experience.

“When an exciting idea comes through it’s a joy to be able to offer support, and to enable those artists to connect not just with Nottingham Playhouse, but with the wider ecology in the region.  It is also a useful tool for shaping the wider Amplify offer – we can see where there are patterns in gaps in knowledge or resource that we need to address.

“If you have an idea or project you’d like some support with, please do send it in. Think of it as the start of a conversation – we want to get to know you and your work.”
