Over 100 different skaters, coaches, and officials from 18 countries were in Nottingham this week as the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham and National Ice Centre hosted an international training camp delivered by British Ice Skating (BIS) in partnership with the International Skating Union (ISU) Development Program.

Taking place from 25 – 29 May, the intensive high-performance camp brought together athletes and coaches from across the world for five days of elite training, technical development and collaboration, with the programme directly aligned to developing the next generation of Olympic talent.

The event reinforced Nottingham’s growing reputation as a major hub for international ice spots, while also delivering a significant economic boost to the city, with skaters, coaches, officials and family members staying in Nottingham for six nights and generating more than 1,100 hotel bed nights across the week.

British talent was strongly represented, with 29 GB Performance Pathway skaters attending the camp, including Next Generation Performance Pathway Skater Arina Vorobeva, who trains at and represents Nottingham’s National Ice Centre.

The camp also featured several internationally recognised athletes, including Czech skater Georgii Reshtenko, who won bronze at the 2026 ISU Figure Skating European Championships in Sheffield, alongside international medallists Nikita Starostin (Germany), Mihhail Selevko (Estonia) and Vladimir Samoilov (Poland).

Martin Ingham, CEO of the Motorpoint Arena Nottingham and National Ice Centre, said:

“We were incredibly proud to welcome skaters, coaches, and officials from across the world to Nottingham for this important ISU Development Camp.

“Our venue has a long-standing reputation as one of the UK’s leading ice sports venues, and it’s fantastic to see athletes from all over the world choosing Nottingham as the place to train, develop and share expertise at the highest level of the sport.

“Beyond the ice, events like this bring real value to the city, supporting local hotels, restaurants, hospitality venues and businesses, while showcasing Nottingham as a destination for international sport.

“It also came at an exciting time for the city, as we continue to build towards hosting the ISU Synchronized Skating World Championships in 2027. Opportunities like this help strengthen Nottingham’s profile as a leading sporting city, building on its proud sporting heritage while showcasing its ability to host international events on home soil.”

Jon Eley, British Ice Skating Performance Director said:

“This camp has been a real team effort from everyone at British Ice Skating and we’re incredibly proud to deliver Great Britain’s first ever ISU Development Camp.

“This comes off the back of a landmark four-year Olympic cycle and really puts our athletes and coaches in the strongest position as we begin a new cycle.

“It’s a major milestone for our sport and an important step on the journey towards the French Alps 2030 Winter Olympic Games and beyond.”

About the Programme

The camp was delivered across five intensive training days, with two to three on-ice sessions per day alongside off-ice work including strength and conditioning, choreography, sports psychology and artistry development.

Educational workshops covering ISU rules, athlete physical and mental wellbeing, as well as personal development were also included.

The programme is aligned with the ISU’s Vision 2030 strategy, which aims to grow the sport globally and develop the athletes who will represent their nations at future Winter Olympic Games. A second BIS/ISU Development camp is scheduled to take place at Ice Sheffield in July 2026.
