Gedling Borough Council invites residents to celebrate World Environment Day with a special event exploring how local people are embracing greener ways of living – from electric cars to eco-friendly homes.

It will be a day of inspiring stories, expert talks, a free sustainable lunch, and a screening of the powerful documentary 2040, all aimed at encouraging greener living in Gedling and beyond.
The event will spotlight real-life journeys to sustainability from within the borough, including residents who’ve switched to electric vehicles and experts helping to build the energy-efficient homes of the future. There will also be short films and insights from local businesses and community organisations leading the way in green innovation.
Agenda Highlights:
- 10 – 10.20am: Arrival & refreshments
- 10.30 – 10.40am: Welcome from Councillor Viv McCrossen, Portfolio Holder for Climate Change and Natural Habitat
- 10.40 – 11am: Stories of electric car adoption and local sustainable travel initiatives
- 11 – 11.20am: Energy-efficient homes in Gedling – including Warm Homes Grant and Gedling Green developments (TBC)
- 11.20 – 11.50am: Talks from local businesses and community organisations including Blue Stamp Travel, Wheldon’s Garage, and Pulp Friction
- 12 – 12.50pm: Free sustainable lunch by Pulp Friction + networking
- 1 – 2.30pm: Screening of 2040 (PG) – a hopeful vision of a sustainable future
The event is hosted by Gedling Borough Council and funded by Innovate UK.
Travel & Accessibility:
The venue is easily reached by bus, and we encourage attendees to use sustainable travel options like walking or cycling. Cycle parking is available outside Bonington Theatre, and there is an EV charging point in the adjacent car park. If driving, please consider car sharing.
