Wild Acre Village, the popular self-catering accommodation located on the edge of Sundown Adventureland in Retford, is celebrating winning a couple of awards at the recent Hoseasons’ Diamond Awards 2025.
Achieving two accolades, the accommodation came first place in the categories ‘Best in Britain – Holiday Park’ and ‘Relax & Explore – Heart of England – Small Park’, with winners chosen using statistics and ratings from Hoseasons’ own customers, who share their views on accommodation after their visits.
Debs Griffin, director at Sundown Adventureland and responsible for managing Wild Acre Village, said of the recent awards:
“When we opened the lodges, we knew there would be a demand for staying overnight at Sundown Adventureland but we never could’ve anticipated that three years on, we would be consistently fully booked with so many of our customers returning for repeat visits.
“Offering families a good value, very clean, comfortable and entertaining stay has been central to the success of Wild Acre Village, and our team works extremely hard to ensure every guest has a memorable stay, wants to keep coming back and laps up the magic and exciting nature of Sundown Adventureland.”
Wild Acre Village opened in 2022 after Sundown Adventureland acted on feedback from its customers who said they couldn’t fit all their exploring into one day and wanted to return to their favourite attractions, rides and play parks the following day.
The holiday village has dozens of self-catering lodges which can host up to 10 guests. Consisting of one bathroom, one master bedroom with a king-sized bed, and a children’s triple bunk bedroom that sleeps three, each lodge has a well-equipped kitchen with an oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher, kettle and toaster alongside a large dining area. Selected lodges are also equipped with luxurious hot tubs to relax in after a long day exploring, with a couple of the lodges specially designed for disabled guests.
For larger groups, the 10-person lodges are interconnected offering the best of both worlds in closeness and privacy and are extremely popular with groups of friends or families with multiple generations.
Part of the appeal of Wild Acre Village is undoubtedly its proximity to the theme park’s attractions, rides and play areas, which are designed especially for children aged under 10 years old and every booking includes free park tickets for all guests for the duration of their stay.
For the thrill seekers, hop aboard Robin Hood’s Merry Adventure to meet merry friends and uncover surprises at every corner, or travel through the mountains and outback on Rocky Mountain Railroad. The car enthusiasts can show off their skills in the mini jungle-themed monster trucks at Monkey Mayhem Driving School, before exploring multiple adventure play areas including Angry Birds Activity Park and Fort Apache.
Sundown Adventureland also encourages independent and imaginative play through its Storybook Village, Market Square and Toy Town.
“The success of both Wild Acre Village and Sundown Adventureland in recent years has really put us on the map for families, with the lodges acting as a great base to explore Lincolnshire, South Yorkshire and the East Midlands. We truly believe we put families first and think of all their needs, which is why we opened Sundown’s Crash Landings Bistro for overnight guests, serving dinner in the evening and cooked breakfasts in the morning,”
added Shaun Malvern, also director at Sundown Adventureland.
Wild Acre Village has also been nominated for the Camping, Glamping and Holiday Park of the Year award at the upcoming Nottingham Tourism Awards 2026, where the winners will be unveiled next year. The awards celebrate excellence across Nottinghamshire’s tourism, leisure, culture and hospitality industries, shining a spotlight on the businesses making outstanding contributions to the region’s visitor economy.
Prices for Wild Acre Village start from £299 for a three-night break, with free park tickets for all guests included for the duration of the stay.
