New gallery announced and new ticketing arrangements reveal value offer: ‘Pay once, visit all year round’ for Wollaton Hall and All Nottingham City Museum Attractions.
Nottingham City Museums announces Wollaton Hall’s newest gallery ‘Discovering Dinosaurs’ will open to visitors from Tuesday 1st April 2025, as part of its final stage of the ‘World of Wonder’ gallery restoration and the on-going building restoration programmes committed to ensuring that Wollaton Hall’s Elizabethan mansion, which is over four hundred years old, continues to remain financially sustainable and fit for future generations to enjoy.
The ‘World of Wonder’ project was to ensure Wollaton Hall remains the largest Natural History Museum in the Midlands. To date, it has launched revamped galleries including: ‘Taxidermists’ Tale’ that boasts a full-sized Giraffe, ‘Living Planet’ which showcases ‘George the Gorilla’, well loved by many visitors, the ‘Bird room’, ‘Fish room’, and the ‘Changing Planet’ gallery that educates visitors on the importance of looking after wildlife for our planet.
The newest edition to launch and opening its doors on Tuesday 1st April 2025 will be the ‘Discovering Dinosaurs’ gallery, showcasing three dinosaurs: a full-sized Tyrannosaurus rex that is 12 meters in length, a Lufengosaurus, and an Oviraptor, plus three non-dinosaur specimens: Plesiosaur, Ichthyosaur and Pteranodon, and many other specimens that help visitors understand the evolution of the Dinosaurs.
Brand new admission arrangements will mean that an adult pays £15 once to visit all year, inside Wollaton Hall, while accompanied children 15 years & under go free (up to three children per paying adult) – making it a great, affordable family-friendly day out. Inside the Hall will offer a free under 5s activity zone, and a free children’s trail sheet full of activities to engage and entertain little ones. Entrance to the Wollaton Deer Park & Grounds will remain free – parking charges apply, excludes special events. Advance bookings for admission tickets are now available online: www.wollatonhall.org.uk.
Although it is appreciated that it will be a change to visitors to introduce admission charges into Wollaton Hall, teams have worked hard to ensure that the pricing is competitive, taking into consideration the marketplace of Heritage organisations nationwide, while keeping in line with City Museums other venues: Nottingham Castle and Newstead Abbey & Gardens. The charge is intended to help us safeguard and protect these wonderful Heritage sites and buildings for many years to come.
For the first time ever, Nottingham City Museums Service have also announced a brand new £30 Adult Rover Ticket that enables people on the ‘Pay once, visit all year round’ arrangement to gain entry to all three museums – Nottingham Castle, Wollaton Hall & Newstead Abbey. Accompanied children will access all three venues at no charge (15 years & under – up to three children with a paying adult).
Throughout the year the sites will also offer a number of low-cost entry days linked to special events and promotions to ensure all our sites remain accessible to all.
The announcement comes as part of last week’s English Tourism Week and aims to encourage visitors to be proud of the diverse heritage across all three historic sites, enjoyed by both national and international visitors alike.
Nottingham City Council’s Councillor Sam Lux, Portfolio Holder for Carbon Reduction, Leisure & Culture said:
“I am delighted to announce that Wollaton Hall’s newest gallery will open from Tuesday 1st April. It is fantastic that the Nottingham City Museums teams have been able to complete a major phase of restorative works through external grants at no cost to the Council. For those who haven’t visited for some time, Wollaton Hall now offers a vastly different experience with lots to see and do.”
“We have listened to what visitors value inside Wollaton Hall as part of the new admission arrangements. I believe the simple pricing, including the new ‘rover ticket’ offers excellent value for money and, importantly, helps protect our important Heritage.”
“This change will help sustain Wollaton Hall & Deer Park as a wonderful place for visitors to explore for many years to come, continuing its longstanding cultural significance on both a local and international stage.”
