FUTUREPROOF and East Midlands Combined County Authority partner to drive conversations on the region’s future

FUTUREPROOF, the national forum for regeneration, sustainability and economic transformation, is partnering with the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) for its 2027 event.

Bringing together leaders, policymakers, decision-makers, changemakers and passionate individuals from across industries, FUTUREPROOF will explore how we can create a better future for our places, people and economy by working together.

EMCCA, led by Mayor Claire Ward, is driving regional ambition, unlocking investment and championing economic growth to create a more prosperous, connected and inclusive future for Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, Derby and Derbyshire.

From business and investment to the built environment, tourism, technology, education and the public sector, FUTUREPROOF connects people with different perspectives, expertise and ideas to challenge conventional thinking, inspire innovation and explore practical solutions to the opportunities and challenges facing society.

Taking place on Wednesday 24 February 2027 at Broadway Cinema, in the heart of Nottingham’s Lace Market, FUTUREPROOF will welcome 400 delegates for a full day of more than 30 sessions across four stages, all under one roof.

Now in its second year, the national forum is built around four interconnected themes: Place, People, Planet and Progress. Together, these themes provide a framework for exploring how we create thriving places, support people and communities, respond to environmental challenges and harness innovation, investment and new thinking to drive sustainable economic growth.

The partnership between FUTUREPROOF and EMCCA reflects a shared ambition to accelerate positive change across the East Midlands, bringing together public and private sector leaders, industry expertise and fresh perspectives to help shape a more prosperous, resilient and inclusive future.

With Nottingham and the wider East Midlands providing the backdrop for national conversations, FUTUREPROOF will showcase the region’s ambition, build new partnerships and connect local opportunities with national thinking and expertise.

Megan Powell Vreeswijk, CEO of Marketing Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, said: “We are delighted to welcome the East Midlands Combined County Authority as key partner of FUTUREPROOF 2027.

“FUTUREPROOF is about bringing people together who share a determination to make a difference. Whether they are leading businesses, shaping policy, developing our towns and cities, driving innovation or championing their communities, we want to create a space where different industries, perspectives and ideas come together.

“The challenges and opportunities facing our economy, environment and communities do not sit neatly within individual sectors, and neither should the conversations about how we address them.

“Through FUTUREPROOF, we want to inspire new thinking, challenge perspectives, encourage meaningful collaboration and, importantly, turn ideas into action.

“Having EMCCA alongside us reinforces the importance of this collective ambition and provides a fantastic opportunity to position Nottingham, Nottinghamshire and the wider East Midlands at the heart of national conversations about our future.”

Mayor of the East Midlands, Claire Ward, said: “The East Midlands has huge potential when it comes to creating a greener and more resilient society. Realising our ambitions means bringing people together to share ideas, build partnerships and turn ideas into action.

“From the businesses investing in our region to the communities shaping the places they call home, we need to work together to create opportunities for people and build a green economy that works for everyone.

“Partnering with FUTUREPROOF gives us a fantastic opportunity to bring those conversations to the forefront, connect regional expertise with national thinking and showcase what the East Midlands can achieve.”

Early Bird tickets for FUTUREPROOF 2027 are now on sale, with further programme announcements and keynote speakers to be revealed in due course.
