GIN & JUBILEE AT DH LAWRENCE BIRTHPLACE MUSEUM

A pop-up Gin Palace is coming to the D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum in Eastwood.  For the beginning of the Jubilee weekend, on Thursday 2nd June, the museum will be hosting an original event: Gin & Jubilee. In the spirit of Victorian decadence, attendees will be greeted with a traditional alcoholic Jubilee punch, taste a selection of gins and choose their favourite for a full measure. Admission to the museum is included as part of the event, with the chance to see the historic rooms, gallery and exhibition rooms.

Visitors will also get a glimpse into Jubilee celebrations of the past. The museum is a superbly restored mining cottage from the 1860s, with gaslight and original objects.  The charming historic rooms are laid out as they would have been when the Lawrence family lived there and are fascinating to see at any time. Currently though, there is a Jubilee themed trail around the museum, with objects laid out as the Lawrence’s prepare for their own Victorian Jubilee celebrations.

“This is our chance to introduce people to Jubilee celebrations of the past.”  Alex Khan, Cultural Services Manager.

Booking is essential as places are limited.  The event starts at 6pm on Thursday 2nd June. Ticket includes two free drinks, the gin tasting and admission to the museum, book online at https://www.lleisure.co.uk/events/gin-jubilee/  or phone the museum for more information on 0115 9173824.  Parking is available adjacent to the museum on Victoria Street and Scargill Walk.
