The National Ice Centre in Nottingham is thrilled to announce the Robin Hood Trophy, an international figure skating club competition, taking place between 13th to 16th January 2025. This exciting event will feature skaters of all ages and levels, showcasing their talents in a series of captivating performances. Entry to watch the competition is free, making it a perfect outing for families and sports enthusiasts alike.
In the spirit of Robin Hood’s legacy of helping those most in need, the event will also serve as a platform to support local charities. Attendees are encouraged to make donations in the form of cash, clothes, or food, with a “give what you can” approach to three partner charities who support some of those most in need across Nottingham.
All three charity partners operate in the centre of Nottingham, and everyday help people in some of the most difficult circumstances and deprivation that local citizens face every single day.
Sharewear Clothing Scheme helps adults in Nottinghamshire and surrounding areas who can’t afford the cost of clothing for themselves or their families and will be receiving clothing donations.
Switch Up empowers Nottingham’s young people, children and young adults to break the cycle of offending and reoffending and to realise their true potential. Switch Up will be receiving monetary donations.
The Open Kitchen provides free hot food to those who don’t know where their next meal is coming from – with a no questions asked policy – providing a safe space where people can have their meal in peace and a community hub for people to socialise and make new friends. The Open Kitchen will be receiving food donations.
“We are excited to bring together the thrill of figure skating and the generosity of our community,” said Martin Ingham, CEO of the NIC. “This event not only highlights the incredible talent of the skating community, but also supports the vital work of local charities.”
Dr Louise Cooke, Founder and CEO at Sharewear Clothing scheme said, “Everyone at Sharewear is very excited to be an official partner of the Robin Hood Trophy competition. The timing of it could not be better as it coincides with our Manuary campaign, raising awareness of the fact that thousands of Notts men each month can’t afford the cost of clothing and rely on our support, whilst we struggle with the low levels of quality male clothing donations compared to women’s. Hopefully, spectators at this event will take the opportunity to have a New Year clear out of high quality but no-longer-worn clothing – especially for boys and men – and donate them to help people in the local community who can’t afford the cost of clothing – enabling them to transform their lives.”
Umar Rashid, Deputy Director of Programmes at Open Kitchen said, “We are delighted to be involved with this event. No one should go hungry in our community, but unfortunately that is the reality. Our Open Kitchen initiative provides a safe space in these difficult times and ensures hot, nutritious meals are provided every day of the year.”
Marcellus Baz, CEO of Switch Up commented, “It humbles me to know that our work is impacting people, and the generosity shown by spectators at the Robin Hood Trophy will enable us to reach further and wider – and help more young people to turn their lives around.”
The Robin Hood Trophy aims to welcome audiences of enthusiasts and newcomers to figure skating alike, and in turn raise awareness for the participating charities. Join us for a week of spectacular skating and community spirit!
